TORONTO – A youth-led demonstration is expected in the Ontario legislature today demanding immediate climate action from leaders at all levels of government.
Friday for the Future Toronto is organizing a rally and march, scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. in Queen’s Park
Organizer Eleanor Rooseout says the demonstration is an opportunity for people to demand immediate action from politicians to tackle climate change-related issues.
She says the rally will also call on the newly elected federal Liberal government to deliver on climate promises made during the recent election campaign.
Behind the rally they are also calling for action that includes incorporating climate justice into the Ontario education curriculum for all grades, ending camp evictions in Toronto and the full implementation of calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Similar demonstrations are planned at locations across the country as part of the #FridaysForFuture school strike movement that began in August 2018.
