Tybee Island, Ga. – related woman metro atlanta Police said a man was arrested for throwing an injured puppy into the sea off the Georgia coast.
Candy Selena Maban was arrested on Tuesday by the Tybee Police Department on charges of serious cruelty to animals.
“The original call was that she was throwing the dog overboard,” Tybee Island Police Lieutenant Emory Randolph told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “Some witnesses were very angry with this.”
Police said that the incident took place on Sunday, 12 September at around 3 pm in the South Beach area. Police said officers found the puppy wrapped in sand on the beach and suffered an apparent injury.
“I believe that when officers arrived at the scene, he was lying in the sand and covered in sand,” Randolph said. “He just lay there in a ball.”
Marban told police that the dog had been injured in an accident a week earlier and had no money for treatment. Police said one leg of the dog was injured.
“No attempt was made to obtain professional medical treatment,” he said.
Maban was cited for cruelty to animals and the puppy was taken into protective custody.
Police said they took the puppy to an emergency veterinary hospital in Savannah. Police said that there, a vet reported that the full extent of the puppy’s injuries were exaggerated and that they were forced to put the puppy down.
On Monday, a warrant was issued with advanced charges of a felony that increased cruelty to animals, and police issued a wanted poster for Maban.
Marban, whom police said was from the Gainesville area, was located on Tuesday and was arrested.
The Tybee Island Police Department took to its Facebook page to thank all those who called the wanted poster and offered suggestions to help locate it.
