Anyone old enough to remember the September 11 attacks knows where they were when the first plane hit the North Tower. That day the world changed forever. Unfortunately for comedian Pete Davidson, a native New Yorker, his father died in the attacks. Davidson’s father was a firefighter who was trying to save his life at Ground Zero when the towers collapsed. In the aftermath of the tragedy, some people lied about where they were on 9/11 and this includes comedian Steve Ranazici.
Steve Ranzasi was known for ‘The League’
Things were going well for Ranazisi in 2009, according to Washington Post. The budding comedian had just entered the game, yet he was already on an FFX show. She was being interviewed by Mark Marin for the premiere of his show, League. This is quite impressive.
His first credit came in 2003 when he played a field agent Pankad. To become a TV star in just eight years is not an easy feat. Some actors and comedians work their entire lives for that kind of recognition.
Ranazici claimed that he got into comedy after 9/11 nearly perished. He told Marin that he was working for Merrill Lynch at the South Tower on that sunny September day. Ranazici describes in detail running for his life through the streets of Manhattan. But it turned out that none of this was true.
Steve Ranazzisi lied about his 9/11 experience
Even Ranagesi doesn’t know why he lied about his experiences of 9/11. He had just moved to New York and was working that morning in midtown Manhattan.
Maybe it was for meditation, or to really feel part of the city. He couldn’t really explain his motivation. Once people started doubting his story, Ranazisi clarified and posted an apology on his Twitter. In part, it read “I don’t know why I said that. It was unforgivable. I’m really, really sorry.”
Ranazisi was not easy for his lies. That was essentially cancelled, before ‘cancel culture’ was even a thing. His personal website was taken down and Davidson outed him on social media. Although later interviews have revealed that Davidson has mixed feelings about the comedian he once respected, he did not take pity on Ranazisi’s lies.
What has Steve Ranazzisi done since then?
Ranazisi has had a few small roles since being called to a lie in 2015. Looks like his career isn’t dead in the water, but he hasn’t landed on anything that big League. According to IMDb, he had parts in three TV shows in 2017, including curb Your Enthusiasm.
Then, in 2018, Rannazzisi had two credits. for a small role in a TV show, and for a Avengers of Justice: Fars Wars, Where he played Superbat. Ranazisi had one credit each for 2019 and 2020, so it looks like he’s getting less work as time goes on.
According to him instagram, he will appear in a small show in Houston in November. It seems he is focusing on stand-up now, and is staying away from TV. His personal website has a ‘Tours’ tab and he claims he will be in Milwaukee this month.
As far as his private wife is concerned, it is not clear whether he is still married or not. When his lie was uncovered, it was found that he had lied about his wife also that day. She claimed that she was going to a makeshift gig at the South Tower, but for some reason could not save her life. In fact, she was going to the World Financial Center, which is separate from the World Trade Center.
