Actor Michael C. Hall is perhaps most notable for playing Dexter on Showtime right and the soon-to-premier revival, Dexter: New Blood. But he recently talked about some of the stranger aspects of playing a famously complicated serial killer, and especially how some photo requests get a little bizarre — even with the actor playing Dexter. also for! what Hall said was “weird” about his conversation with some right fans and why does he think he is a serial killer sex symbol?
How is Michael C. Hall related to Dexter?
Hall once said that he is “not inclined toward the compulsive behavior” that Dexter displays. But playing the character made her think more about “how we’re all compulsive in different ways, and how we all have our secrets and they’re so powerful.”
He acknowledged that Dexter is a part of him. “I think when you’ve been with one character for so long, there’s inevitably going to be some back-and-forth between you and him,” he explained.
But he also wants people to remember that he’s not Dexter. So, some fan requests might be a little weird.
Hall recently told Entertainment Weekly People would often ask him to sign their kitchen knife as he plays a serial killer. “I signed a lot of knives,” he noted, before revealing that he had stopped signing them for logical reason. “I’m worried someone will commit a crime,” he said. “Can you get in trouble if you sign a murder weapon?”
So, his reason for not signing Knife to fans is obvious, but what did he say was another “weird” aspect of meeting strangers who treat him like a serial killer?
What’s ‘weird’ about meeting some of ‘Dexter’ fans?
While many people know Hall to play Dexter, it is important to remember that a large number of right Fans are quite strange to him. So, he said it was a bit bizarre when people approached him asking for photos that mimicked his murders.
“It was weird meeting strangers and asking them if I’d pretend I was hitting them while they were taking pictures,” he said. Well, that seems fair enough. Can you imagine having to drop your produce to commit the murder of a fan?
Those who watch Dexter know that they used a very systematic process, so it’s interesting to think about how some of these requests might have been involved. But Hall has some theories as to why people like Dexter so much — even enough to make him a sex symbol.
On being a serial killer sex symbol, Michael C. Hall: Daman is attractive to some
Hall previously speculated on why Dexter is so popular with audiences as a gay character—and his answers go a little deeper. That said, in a general sense, it has to do with a belief that a lot of people think they’re “fake it,” like Dexter does. But hopefully not to the same extent.
“I think we can all relate from time to time with a sense of inauthenticity or seeing someone with horrifying secrets trying to right from the commitments they’ve made in their lives. I think it’s extremely relatable. And likable,” Hall said of the character. That’s why fans adore Dexter, but why make him a sex symbol?
Hall also has a solid theory for this. “I think he is quite repressed when we first meet him, he has come a long way. I think it is charming,” he guessed. “And I think he is a real active is person. He’s a goalscorer and he gets things done.”
So, while some of the conversation may be awkward for Hall, he understands why people relate — and even seems to lust for Dexter.
‘Dexter: New Blood’ brings serial killer sex symbol back to TV screens
Fans can hold Hall back in his role Dexter: New Blood, premieres November 7 on Showtime.
The show reportedly finds Dexter ten years after the show’s last episode right, living in a new city under a fake name. While he probably existed peacefully for much of that decade, some series of events would lead to his reappearance of the Dark Passenger.
And with Hall now 50 and back in something that looks like a “Kill Suit,” it’s likely that fans of this new version of Dexter will be thirsty in the same old fashioned way.
