Nose drops containing vitamin A may help Researchers believe that COVID patients have regained their lost sense of smell.
Scientists at the University of East Anglia will run a 12-week trial, treating infected people who have lost their smell with nutrient-rich nasal drops.
Experts say the trial is based on a German study showing potential benefits of the vitamin, and they will ‘explore how this treatment works to help repair tissues in the nose damaged by the virus’.
He hopes the treatment ‘could one day help improve the lives of millions of people around the world who suffer from a lack of smell by returning their fifth sense’.
Scientists are recruiting participants for a new medical trial to see if nasal drops containing vitamin A can help Covid patients who have lost their sense of smell to the virus (stock) can recover.

The study, funded by the National Institute for Health Research, will begin recruiting participants in December.
Vitamin A helps to support the body’s immune system as well as keep the lining of body parts such as the skin and nose healthy.
Good sources of the vitamin include cheese, eggs, oily fish and liver.
The recommended intake of 0.7 mg per day for men and 0.6 mg for women is usually achieved through a normal diet.
However, too much vitamin A in the diet can be harmful and harm your bone health later in life.
Pregnant women are especially advised to avoid large amounts of vitamin A as it can harm their baby.

Can You Have Too Much Vitamin A?
Some research suggests that an average of more than 1.5 milligrams of vitamin A over several years can affect your bones, making them more likely to fracture as you get older.
This is especially important for older people, especially women, who are already at increased risk of osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones.
Having large amounts of vitamin A can harm your unborn baby. So if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby, do not consume liver or liver related products, such as pate, as they are high in vitamin A.
