As news spread Thursday that former President George W. Bush would headline a Texas fundraiser for US Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming next month, subscribers to an email post by former President Donald Trump received a “must see” message.
Inside the file, there was no written message from Trump with the subject line “ICYMI: Must-see photo,” just a photoshopped image depicting Bush and Cheney as if they were one person.

Former President Bush to fundraise for Liz Cheney at his first 2022 event, setting up conflict with Trump
It is well known to most political observers that Trump is neither a fan of Bush, nor the last Republican to serve as president before Trump, nor Cheney, whose father Dick Cheney served two terms, 2001– Was Bush’s vice president for 2009.
Trump repeatedly criticized Bush while running for the White House in 2016 and resumed that criticism earlier this month after Bush’s 9/11 comments that drew national attention. Bush’s comments, drawing an analogy between 9/11 and the January 6 Capitol riots, were seen as an outright criticism of Trump.
In response, the 45th president claimed that “the World Trade Center came down under his watch” and alleged that “Bush led a failed and inspirational presidency. He should not lecture anyone!”
Meanwhile, Cheney has drawn Trump’s ire for being the most senior House Republican to vote against Trump during his second impeachment trial. But congressmen have only seen their campaign funds climb since the clash with Trump, racking up a record $1.5 million during the first three months of 2021 and a record $1.9 million in the second quarter.
