give the night Sound Season 21’s Battle Round is in the books after episode 8 on Tuesday, October 12. Coaches Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Blake Shelton added incredible cast members to their teams, which meant tough decisions when it came time for elimination.
But first, the evening began with a continuation of Monday night’s cliffhanger: Who did Gershika Maple pick as her coach? As a reminder, she competed against Jeremy Rosado on Kelly’s team. Kelly picks Jeremy, but Ariana and John swoop in to save Jeremy from elimination. On Tuesday, Jershika found a new home in John’s team. Then, the night continued with even more surprise battles.
Blake begins the episode with a fight between Hailey Greene and Lana Scott. The singers sang the “Girl” duet by Maren Morris, which really showed an edge in both of their voices. In rehearsals, Blake described Hailey as “wild” and said she brings “attack” to her singing, just like she does as a linebacker on her high school’s football team. Meanwhile, he heard a “country edge” in Lana’s voice.
Later, Kelly sees the same strength in Hailey, calling her “Cheetah”. Lana likes what Lana brought to the stage, but Kelly is interested in seeing where Cheetah will go. In the end, Blake chose Hailey because of her powerful vocals. But it’s not the end of the road for Lana; Blake took out his save for the singer. Obviously, that was his plan. He was not ready to let any artist go home.
Sound A brief glimpse of Team Blake’s fight between Libyanca and Tommy Edwards is also shown. His performance of “Save Your Tears” by The Weeknd blew up Blake, and he said his team was shaping up to be “Dynamite.” Libyanca won the battle; Blake said he admires her “unique voice” and is looking forward to seeing her in the knockouts.

Sound Fans only got a brief look at Team Kelly’s next fight during Episode 8. He paired Javier Cornell with Carolina Alonso for a performance of “Telepatia” by Kali Uchis. Kelly chose Javier because he thinks he can surprise everyone with his ability to tackle any tune this season.

Ariana joined Von Mugol with Katherine Anne Mohler for a performance of “Dilemma” by Nelly and Kelly Rowland. During rehearsals, Ariana’s war adviser, Kristin Chenoweth, called Catherine’s voice “silk”. Ariana agreed, but thought Katherine might be a little lax with her “mathematical” musings. He encouraged Katherine to explore a bit with her voice.
The encouragement worked as Vaughan and Katherine woke the coaches. John said both actors had gone out of their comfort zones for the song, but Katherine was more specific to them. Meanwhile, Kelly enjoys Vaughn’s falsetto notes. Blake lived under a rock and didn’t know this famous song, but when he saw one he still knew a good performance. In the end, Ariana chose Katherine because she’s an “incredible student of music.”
Team Ariana: Katie Rae, Jim and Sasha Allen, Raquel Trinidad, Rayleigh Plank, Sofia Bromberg, KCK 3, Katherine Ann Mohler, Hailey Mia, David Vogel, Bella Denapoli
Team Legend ended the night with a fight between Brittanybrie and Samara Brown. His performance of “Something He Can Feel” by Aretha Franklin earned him a standing ovation from John and battle advisor Camila Cabello at rehearsals and then from all four coaches during the fight. This may be Brittanybri’s first branching out into secular music, but no one would have guessed from that performance.
Kelly said that the two actors had “crazy” voices, while Ariana said their vocals complemented each other. John chose BrittanyBrie as his winner, but he pressed his save button for Samara, while Kelly and Ariana wanted to steal. Eventually Samara went back to John’s team. As for John, Brittanybri and Samara seem to have some great talent this season.
