Viewers of The One Show have begged for former host Matt Baker to return to the fold after ripping into “Muppet” replacement presenters.
Matt, 43, who appeared alongside Alex Scott and Jermaine Janus on Monday night’s show, returned to BBC Studios for the first time since leaving his role as host last year.
Since leaving the fan-favorite series, Matt has starred in his Channel 4 series – Our Farm in the Dales – with his family.
Their BBC exit saw The One Show regular Alex Jones welcoming Jermaine and Ronan Keating as their replacements – but it didn’t go down well with fans.
Matt made a rare appearance at the event to discuss this year’s Rickshaw Challenge for Children in Need, as well as his farming series, something fans didn’t want the former Countryphile star to walk away.
Taking to Twitter, diehard fans of the program wrote about their joy to see Matt back on the couch, with many of them asking him to return permanently.
One viewer wrote: “Come back, Matt, sorry all! These two puppets can’t appear for Toffee!”
Someone else argued: “Bring back Alex Jones and Matt Baker. I’m fed up with the current amateur presentation on The One Show.”
Another fan also commented on the new presenters, saying: “One Show suddenly feels quieter not that Matt Baker has arrived.
“There’s something very ‘complete’ about the current presenters.”
While the fourth shouted: “I am not ready for this after a day’s work. Laughter, chattering at each other, cheap endless plugs about books.”
“Bring back Alex Jones and Matt Baker. I’m fed up with the current amateur presentation on The One Show.”
However, it looks like Matt will be away from BBC Studios as he and his family continue to work on their farm in the second series of their More4 show, which returns on Monday evening.
Still, Matt notes how happy he was to be back in the studio, where he served as a presenter for a decade, so that fans could one day see him back on the famous couch.
“Can I say how lovely it is to be back?” Matt said that Alex and Jermaine introduced him to the show.
“With all the crew and everyone,” he added before waving that off-camera. “Honestly nice to see you all.”
Bringing up the image of the set has changed since Matt’s exit, Jermaine joked: “Little has changed.”
The former One Show host replied: “I know, it’s kind of like going around a relative who’s re-decorated.”
The One Show airs weekdays at 7 pm on BBC One.
