Earlier this year, Jeep showcased the Grand Cherokee L, a new three-row, full-size SUV that steps down from the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in the company’s lineup. Now it’s the younger brother’s turn.
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee two-row SUV comes to market with the look and appeal of its three-row sibling, but in a smaller package. An electrified version, the Grand Cherokee 4Xe, will be the first of its kind in the Jeep lineup and will join the Renegade 4XE, Wrangler 4XE and Compass 4XE plug-in hybrid product portfolio.
Jeep will offer the 2022 Grand Cherokee in Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve trims.
Part of the fifth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee family, the new two-row version features a completely redesigned lower and thinner roof, wider and larger seven-slot grille, an elongated hood, active grille shutters and vertical column spoiler. Are included.
The track is wider than the previous generation’s dimensions and wheels up to 21 inches are available.
The new Grand Cherokee is 11.4 inches shorter than the Grand Cherokee L and the wheelbase has been shortened by five inches. Its dimensions allow for more passenger and cargo space than the previous generation.
Jeep will offer the model with a gloss black roof on the Grand Cherokee Overland for the first time, and will make it standard on the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve trim levels.
Buyers will be able to choose between three powertrains for their Grand Cherokee: a standard 3.6-liter V6 rated at 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, an available 5.7-liter V8 rated at 357 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. Rated on torque. and an optional combination of a 400-volt battery pack, two electric motors, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that gets 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
The V6 offers up to 6,200 miles of towing capability and an estimated range of over 500 miles. V8 models are capable of towing 1,000 pounds more. The Grand Cherokee 4xe will have a maximum tow rating of 6,000 pounds.
Jeep is taking it on the familiar drivetrain options of the Grand Cherokee. Quadra-Track I, Quadra-Track II and Quadra-Drive II are available, as are Quadra-Lift air suspension and drive mode selector.
The Grand Cherokee 4xe’s powertrain allows for an estimated 25 miles of all-electric range, helping the model reach 57 mpg.
The trail rated Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is capable of handling up to 24 inches of water. Models equipped with air suspension can achieve a ground clearance of 11.3 inches.
Grand Cherokee Tailhawk models include sway bar disconnect, trail speed control technology, high-strength steel skid plates, red toe hooks, 18-inch wheels on all-terrain tires and a glare-proof hood decal.
The Tailhawk 4xe allows slightly less maneuverability with a ground clearance of only 10.9 inches. It gets a blue exterior accent which signifies its plug-in hybrid status.
The SUV’s interior matches the quality of the Grand Cherokee L, setting a new bar for the two-row Grand Cherokee. The emphasis is on finely crafted surfaces and includes frizzy metal and real wood in the highest trim levels.
The available 16-way power-adjustable front seat ups the comfort level and can be included with massage functionality. Updated switches, more front bin storage space and wireless charging round out the model’s high-end highlights.
The car’s infotainment system runs on Uconnect 5, which is the company’s most advanced user experience till date. This paired with three 10.1-inch and two 10.25-inch display screens in the cabin. Like the Grand Wagoneer, the Grand Cherokee is available with a front passenger screen.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital review mirror, a 10-inch heads-up display, wireless charging pad, dual Bluetooth pairing connectivity, 19-speaker Macintosh audio system, Tom-Tom navigation, Pandora station personalization, enhanced Amazon Alexa, Over-the-air mapping updates, Amazon Fire TV, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot are among the high-tech features available.
Jeep is capable of equipping the 2022 Grand Cherokee with over 100 safety and driver assistance features, including Forward Collision Warning with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring are included.
A night vision camera, 360-degree camera system and a hands-on-wheel automatic driving system are available.
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will arrive at Jeep dealerships in North America in the fourth quarter of 2021. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe is due to arrive in North America in early 2022. Pricing will be announced closer to the model’s sale date.
