Dr. Pol grew up in the Netherlands
Dr. Pol was raised on a dairy farm in the Netherlands, where he was responsible for many animals – cows, chickens, goats. Even at the age of 10, Dr. Pol was expected to play his part in the busy farm.
“I grew up on a dairy farm in the Netherlands as the youngest of six, so, yes, I would have loved to be a farmer,” explained Pol Hollywood Soapbox in 2016. “But there is not enough land in the Netherlands. And when my brother needed help, the vet actually picked me up to deliver the piglets to my brother. That was a lot of fun. Then I said, ‘Well, if there’s not a dairy farmer, I’ll work with the bigger animals.’”
Veterinarian received his degree in his homeland
in his memory never turn your back on an angus cowDr. Poll explained that he received his veterinary degree at the University of Utrecht in the city of Utrecht, Netherlands.
“Utrecht University School of Veterinary Medicine is the only veterinary school in the Netherlands,” wrote Dr. “It is a six or seven year course that emphasizes what are known as large animals, basically farm animals. All of our courses were focused on keeping livestock healthy and productive so that Farmers could earn money. School was very difficult.”
Dr. Pol explained that college was free for anyone living in that country, but that didn’t mean that staying in college was easy for students.
“In the Netherlands, if you graduated high school you were entitled to go to college,” he said. “We only paid room and board; There was no tuition. But because of that arrangement, they made the school very difficult for people to get out. On my first day, there were more than three hundred new vets sitting in a single seat in a classroom meant for a hundred people. By the second year, more than half of them were gone. Of the dozen friends I started with, only two made it into regular animal practice. “
