It’s almost officially fall. For Gilmore Girls Fans, that means it’s time to start another rewatch. For some reason, fall seems like the perfect time to reunite with Lorelai and Rory Gilmore in their small Connecticut town of Stars Hollow. Maybe it’s because New England is known for its fall foliage. whatever the reason, Gilmore Girls Autumn screams, but was the series filmed in Connecticut? The answer is no. Most of the series was filmed far away from the East Coast and its cold autumn winds.

Gilmore Girls Northeast may have been relied upon to set the stage for the drama, but not a single scene in the series was actually filmed in the state of Connecticut, at least not scenes that involved any of the actors. In fact, most of the series was apparently filmed across the country.

A City-Owned Mansion in Beverly Hills Served as a Chiltono
while the bulk Gilmore Girls Filmed on a production lot, some key elements of the series required the cast to move into the real world. For example, Rory’s schooling moments were sometimes filmed on location. Rory’s prep school, Chilton, was an important element of the show’s first, second, and third seasons. Scenes shown outside Chilton were filmed on location in Beverly Hills.
Chilton, modeled after a prep school on the East Coast, used Graystone Mansion in California for her outdoor shots. The City of Beverly Hills currently owns the building, but it was originally built in 1927 by Edward Lawrence Doheny, Jr. on a parcel of land gifted by his father. According to Greystone’s friends, the mansion took three years to build and in the 1920s it cost more than $3 million. College Moments made use of college campuses away from the Warner Bros. lot.
The location of Richard and Emily Gilmore’s home is a bit more complicated
Lolelia’s parents Richard and Emily Gilmore reportedly lived in Hartford, Connecticut. Connecticut natives often argue that the two were most likely in West Hartford, rather than the city. While this is true, the house that used to stand for Richard and Emily’s sprawling residence was nowhere near the East Coast. In fact, the property used in the pilot was quite different from the house scene in every other episode. Gilmore Girls.
