Strictly’s Rose Ayling Ellis has been left completely deaf after a hearing aid broke a few days before a live show.
The actress – best known for playing Mick Carter’s daughter Frankie in EastEnders – has made history on the BBC program by becoming the first deaf contestant in the contest.
So far 31 year old soap star and dance partner Giovanni Pernis has impressed fans with her moves and amazing chemistry.
Last week the pair managed to score an impressive 36 out of 40 with their rendition of Foxtrot.
And with only a few days to go until the next live show, the pair is really busy practicing and Rose, 26, has managed to break her hearing aids.
Speaking to the dance studio, Giovanni told his 525k followers on Instagram: “We have some news for you today…”
Rose continued: “This morning my hearing aid broke but I think it’s because I sweated so much it broke it… so I can’t hear anything!”
The Italian professional dancer said: “So the NHS please be quick! We need it!”
But luckily Rose found the funny side of things and joked: “It’s great that I don’t need to hear her voice!”
The telly favorite reposted the video on her Instagram and told fans: “No one needs to panic, it’s a very normal life for deaf people.”
Before Strictly 2021 hits our screens, Rose opened up about how she listens to music as she is performing.
the actress told BBC News: “It is a common misconception that deaf people cannot enjoy music.
“I have a hearing aid, so I pick up some music and I can hear the beat. I can hear someone singing, but I can’t identify the exact words. I feel the vibrations too.”
This means the vibrations of a live band led by Dave Ark can be felt through the large dancefloor at the show’s Elstree studio.
The EastEnders star said she will be able to use her professional partner for guidance in order to stay on time with the rhythm.
“I’ll focus on reading my partner’s body language as well as reading the count in my head, which will help me over time,” she says. “So for me it’s a combination of everything.”
Rose said: “Although not all deaf people are the same, every deaf person will have their own unique experience with music.
“I love music and I can’t wait for Strictly to be taught to dance at a professional level!”
Rose is doing so well in the competition that she has already been groomed to win the Glitterball Trophy.
The star joined EastEnders in May 2020 and has since garnered a huge fan following.
Her co-star Danny Dyer has proudly boasted about her onscreen daughter’s performance in Strictly.
After his first routine — a jive for Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off — he didn’t hold back with his amazing comments.
She wrote on her Instagram post: “Absolutely f***ing fearless Rose. So proud. ️❤️❤️❤️.”
