A sports star allegedly stabbed her boyfriend’s teenage stepson to death after trying to cut a pentagram into the back in a “secret” murder.
Three-time archery-biathlon champion Maria Korneeva, 29, has been detained in connection with the death of her boyfriend’s 15-year-old stepson Roman Fedulov.
Her boyfriend Vladislav Tsykunov, 52, has also been arrested.
He claimed that Kournewa intended to intimidate the teenage boy with a wrench and use a knife to cut a ritualistic symbol on his back – but he killed him instead.
Fedulov’s body was found on Wednesday hidden in a deserted well in a forest near the village of Zemenki, Russia.
On October 8, according to reports citing law enforcement, Tsykunov was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping his stepson.
He divorced Fedulov’s mother before starting dating Korneeva.
Tsykunov was reportedly interested in the occult—supernatural beliefs and practices—and wanted to use it to get back with his ex-wife, Elena Fedulova.
Tsykunov – who ran a business selling amulets online – said that he intended to cut a pentagram five-pointed star on the teenage boy’s back.
In video testimony to the Russian Investigative Committee, he said: “Maria took a wrench, wrapped it in cloth and a hunting knife.
“She took (a pentagram) to draw the knife… I told her to be careful and not to kill her. She said she would only stun him.”
Tsykunov claimed that he was waiting in a car at the time of the murder.
She said: “She ran back saying ‘I killed her’ with open eyes.
“I said ‘Okay’. I’m in shock.”
He said he went to investigate and found the boy dead with two stab wounds.
According to sources, blood stains were later found on his sneakers.
Police reportedly believe that Tsykunov manipulated CCTV footage taken at his former marital home to hide the circumstances surrounding the murder.
According to reports, a collection of his black magic images was also found.
When the boy went missing, his former stepfather volunteered to help with the search.
A message on Korneeva’s now-deleted social media read: “Those who once saw the darkness will never believe in the light.”
A source at Korneva’s former sports club said that Maria “set a goal and coldly went towards it”, adding: “She worked, worked and worked.”
She had recently stopped training and divorced her husband – a cook – and devoted herself to her new boyfriend.
Both Korneeva and Tsykunov have been in custody since being arrested in connection with Fedulov’s death.
