Stewart knows she can’t fully play the role
Going by her own words, Stewart says she will never be able to fully play the role of Princess Diana, and that’s okay with her.
Stewart got all the practical help she needed to step into the shoes of the late royal. Along with hair and makeup, the costume gave her this look. A voice coach helped him nail the British accent.
Stewart knew that portraying the princess would be a challenge. According to Hollywood Reporter, Stewart said knowing that there was no way to play the role perfectly, really helped.
Knowing that, “…was really easy…not being so intimidated,” Stewart said. Knowing that perfection was not going to be achieved made the role less difficult. Stewart embraced Diana’s larger-than-life personality and the mystery surrounding her.
She said that “to catch something wild has to be that, and I can only be my version of that.” Stewart said he learned as much as he could from the late royal, and that the on-screen version is a “mixed up” of Stewart and Princess Diana.
The depression the late royal struggled with defined much of her character, and Stewart said that, while it was similar, it was very different from her own experience.
“The one difference between Diana and me, in particular, is that she was single and I was not. I had people holding me,” Stewart said.
Stewart teamed up with director
Stewart said the opportunity to work closely with director Pablo Lahren was instrumental in nailing the role. Stewart had high words of praise for Lahren.
He said that he was able to keep everyone working at a high level without any benefit. That was the team that Laren put together, Stewart said, and it was wonderful to work with him.
Stewart said that working with Lahren “revived” him. Lahren’s approach to filmmaking was ambitious and committed. Stewart called it “cool” and “feral”.
It was Laren’s commitment to his vision that revived Stewart’s ambition for films. He said that only such people should make films.

There is a definite parallel between Stewart’s difficulties with the spotlight and Princess Diana’s struggles with keeping up with the demands of the royal family and ultra-public life. Stewart relied on his own experiences, but some, it was a bit much of Stewart in the film.
