Sheriff Meena said that a purse containing Mia’s ID was also found near the body.

A positive identification must still be made by the medical examiner’s office. A cause of death has not been identified.

Marcano’s parents have been notified.

“We are not looking for any other person. We believe quite conclusively that Armando Caballero is responsible for this crime.”

Officials searched the New Smyrna Beach area on Friday because they say Caballero had been there for about an hour last Saturday.

The FBI and Florida Department of Law Enforcement joined searches in three counties for 19-year-old Marcano, who went missing more than a week ago.

Marcano went missing the same day a maintenance person improperly used the master key to enter his apartment, officials said.

Sheriff Mina said Caballero, a maintenance worker at the apartment complex where Marcano lived and worked, is believed to be the only person of interest in his case. Caballero, 27, apparently killed himself; His body was found three days after Marcano was last seen.

“At this time we don’t think anyone else was involved,” Meena said on Thursday.
