Gomez later shared her feelings about going blonde.

Gomez fans have a special name for her when she goes blonde. They have named her Blondelena – a combination of blonde and Selena – when she dyes her hair a lighter color. The last time Gomez rocked her blonde hair was at the American Music Awards in late 2017.
At the time, Gomez had recently had a life-saving kidney transplant. Like many others who go through a life-changing event, Gomez took her public reappearance as an opportunity to do something fun and transformative. However, in early 2018, she was back to brunette.

I thought I could do crazy things with my hair or try new looks with my makeup. It’s just It was so much fun,” she continued. “I think it was hard to keep up for a while but… I felt so much better and faster.”
Once again, Gomez’s new look didn’t last long. She quickly turned to her signature dark brown, which she is known for. But before she went back to being a brunette, Blondelna made quite an impression on Gomez. She admitted that she missed being fair.
Blondelna Isn’t Gone Forever
Selena Gomez admits she misses blonde locks. “It was just a whole phase I went through. I’m honestly missing it, not lying,” she continued during the makeup tutorial. “Blonde Selena isn’t gone forever, I’ll tell you.” Undoubtedly, Blondelina fans are happy to hear that.
The multi-hyphenate star showed off her blonde look on the cover of Elle, where she was very much channeling her inner Marilyn Monroe. The shoot featured Gomez in curly blonde hair with fishnet tights and a pencil skirt paired with a fuzzy Chanel sweater.
Gomez’s hair transformation was a tumultuous few years involving health and relationship tribulations. After being diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2018, Gomez says receiving the diagnosis was a relief because it explained some of the things that were happening to her.
Changing your hair color certainly won’t fix the wrong things in your life. But for Gomez, her blonde alter ego allowed her to experiment with her makeup and it made her let her hair down, so to speak. For now, we’ll have to wait until Blondelna decides to grace us with her appearance again.
