And while interest in the film is intense, fans still have several months to wait before the film’s premiere. However, it is worth the wait if cast member Courteney Cox is to be believed.

Campbell, of course, portrayed Sidney Prescott, the main protagonist in the previous films. Cox is also reprising her role as Gail Weathers. Cox is excited to bring this new installment of the franchise to the world. Of course, Cox has always been eager to be such an essential part of the Scream mould.
Cox recalls his initial reaction to reading the script
Thanks to her portrayal of Monica Geller in friend, Cox was already famous from her role in the original the Scream. However, when he came to know about the role of Gayle, he did not rest on his laurels. After reading the script, Cox completely came to terms with the role. in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she got candid about her initial reaction to the script.
“I went after it!” Cox shared about the Scream. “I wanted to play that role, I loved it. I thought the script was funny and scary, and it was insane to start with Drew Barrymore. I was such a big fan.” Cox’s passion for the film certainly fueled And even though he and his co-stars were filming an emotionally intense film, they still enjoyed being on set with each other.
The cast of ‘Scream’ had a lot of fun during the shooting of the first film
“I remember we socialized a lot [on the first film],” Cox shared of her fellow cast members in the above interview. “We really had fun, we went out. i remember wes [Craven, who directed Scream] Used to hangout and we would go to this Italian restaurant in Santa Rosa. Wes doesn’t have the moment to spend the slightest bit of social life during this last film.”
Some the Scream Fans will be sad to learn that Craven is not directing Scream 5. Although he directed the first four installments, the upcoming film is co-directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillette. But Cox is excited about the new blood. According to the actor, the 2022 film exists as its own entity within the franchise.
Cox says new film is not a reboot or a remake
“This is the fifth,” shared Cox The Drew Barrymore Show. “This scream 5, Although. this is the Scream. The directors are incredible, they are absolutely making it… It’s a new franchise. This is the hip. it’s scary. it’s just a new the Scream. It’s not a reboot, it’s not a remake, it’s just a new launch. I think it’s going to be awesome.”
‘Scream 5’ release date not until 2022
Cox is right that it’s not technically scream 5. For the sake of clarity, media outlets are asking to separate it from the first film of the same name. However, the upcoming film is a completely new one featuring newcomers like Jenna Ortega. We are sure fans can’t wait to see what they have in store. However, since the film doesn’t premiere until January 14, 2022, fans will have to entertain themselves with the first four films of this spooky season.
