According to Mashable, “Ted and his Richmond crew love the names of celebrities, bands, writers, and other notable figures.” They claim, “Being referenced in an enjoyable sports comedy is one of the highest honors a person can receive.”
After receiving 20 Emmy nominations for Season 1, ted lasso Producer, Brendan Hunt, revealed the new York Times, “Maybe people don’t mind being reminded that we can be good to each other too — and have fun doing it.”
Hunt, who plays Coach Beard, admitted he doesn’t know why people resonate with freshman comedies, saying, “I wish I knew — I’d make a million more out of these shows!”

The “I’m a survivor” singer retweeted, “Here’s your chance Richmond Don’t let me down.” The show responded, “Buy me a dancin’ costume and call me fancy! Welcome to the dog track, Reba. We’ll drop your tickets under ‘Roy Kent’.”
After winning the popular series four Emmy Awards, McEntire tweeted, “Congratulations to the team @TedLasso on your #Emmy win!!! I tried to be on the show but someone forgot to drop my ticket… #RoyKent.”
Dolly Parton gets in on the action
Parton also couldn’t help but comment on hearing his name on the popular comedy series.
A fan of the show recently tweeted about his experience boarding an airplane. He decided not to get angry and instead thought to himself, “What would Ted Lasso do?” She then said that she chose to talk to a lovely mother-daughter duo while celebrating her mother’s 90th birthday.
The show’s Twitter account quickly replied, “It’s funny, when it comes to small talk, I often ask myself what would Dolly Parton do? Start with 9 to 5 and only God knows with Finish.”
Parton replied on her Twitter account, “You’re so cute, @TedLasso! I heard you called some tickets to @AFCRichmond by my name?”
