Rachel Blackmore’s terrific response when asked about one of the winners of the Cheltenham Festival shows she’s up for even bigger things this season.
The all-conquering Irish jockey completely outclassed rivals Bob Ollinger at the Ballymore Novices handicap last March.
Henri de Bromhead’s six-year-old runner-up Gaillard du Mesnil was awarded the £53,000 winner by seven and a half lengths.
Punters were raving about Paul Nicholls’ spectacular debut for BravemansGame fans at Newton Abbott on Sunday.
But the horse, which is promising, fell 12 lengths behind Bob Olinger in third.
De Bromhead, who teamed up with Blackmore to win the Grand National on the Minella Times, is concerned about the horse’s future, only to confirm that he is going to the chase.
But when talking to Ollie Bell, Blackmore put the bag out a little more sporting life.
When asked what we can expect from the six-year-old superstar moving on, Blackmore waxed lyrical about his prospects.
And it was clear to those watching that with the way he thought about his future big things were expected to happen for the Marsh Novices chase from the current 7-2 FAV.
Blackmore swooped in: “He’s a very exciting horse for the future.
“A lot of people don’t make you feel like he will. I’m really looking forward to him.
“He won point-to-point for Pat Doyle and jumping fences shouldn’t be a problem for him.
“She’s done a lot of loose schooling in Henry’s ring so I look forward to letting her go.
“He just got a different engine. They don’t have the engine that he has.
“Hopefully he can show us throughout the season what he’s made of.”
Blackmore is yet to return to racing after being taken to hospital after a catastrophic fall in July.
He needed surgery after suffering an ankle fracture and a broken hip bone.
But she appeared to be in good spirits ahead of her impending return, admitting that she was still coming to grips with her newfound fame.
The 32-year-old Irish jockey said: “Things are clearly different.
“I was walking through the airport and someone stopped me for a picture. It’s something that clearly had never happened before.
“Things are different but I feel extremely lucky.”
