When Princess Diana Married to Prince Charles in 1981, many believed the couple would marry like a fairytale. However, Diana later shared publicly that she had a tough time as a royal.

Where did Princess Diana work before becoming a royal?
Before marrying Charles, Diana lived a relatively normal life. She shared an apartment in London with roommates. To earn money, Diana worked as a kindergarten teacher and a nanny.
The person who hired Diana as a nanny was an American named Mary Robertson. Diana looked after Robertson’s son Patrick for $5 an hour and also did light housework.

“She told us to come and visit and I didn’t read the call to meet as a small cry for help,” Robertson said.
Diana and Charles divorced in the 1990s. Then, Diana died in a tragic car accident in 1997 at the age of 36.
Robertson attended Diana’s funeral at Westminster Abbey. She recalled, “Being at the funeral was probably the saddest, most painful time I’ve ever had in my life.”

“I went to the top lady and said: ‘I don’t know what to do,’” Diana said, according to Guardian. “She said: ‘I don’t know what you should do.’ And that was it. That was the ‘help’.”
Diana’s words led many to believe that the Queen was careless towards her daughter-in-law. However, royal writer Matthew Dennison noted that Her Majesty had sympathy for Diana.
“There is no doubt that the Queen was sympathetic to the Princess of Wales,” he added Fox News. “But you know, people didn’t discuss mental health as much as we do today. And people were less aware of it.”
Dennison continued, “And of course, the Queen, being a generation older than the Princess of Wales, had a very old-fashioned upbringing. It was a late nineteenth-century upbringing where you certainly saw those things.” didn’t talk about it.”
