In March 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex had an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. This reportedly further aggravated the rift between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family.
According to a royal expert, Harry’s older brother, Prince William, has still not recovered from what happened to mend the rift.
Sussexes criticize Royal Family during Oprah interview
During an interview with Oprah that aired on CBS on March 7, Harry and Meghan criticized the royal family.
For example, Meghan claimed that the institution neglected her in many ways. She said she was not given proper training as a royal, staff ignored her mental health struggles, and she was isolated from the rest of the world. Meghan also accused an unnamed royal of making racially motivated statements about her and Harry’s son Archie.
Additionally, Harry said he was “really disappointed” by his father after the Sussexes left office. Reportedly, Charles did not return Harry’s calls and cut him off financially.
After the interview aired, Buckingham Palace released a Statement In reply. The statement read: “The issues raised are concerning, particularly those of race. While some recollections may differ, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed privately by the family. Harry, Meghan and Archie Will always be the dearest member of the family.”
William also pushed back on accusations of racism, telling reporters at an event, “We are not a racist family.”
Prince William ‘can’t move on’ from what happened, says royal expert
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry didn’t like that their house was compared to Cambridge, claims royal expert
The interview probably didn’t do much to fix the rift between the Sussexes and the other royals. According to a royal expert, William is finding it difficult to move on after what Harry and Meghan did.
“As for Prince William, I’m told he can’t really move on from that diabolical interview the two men did back in March,” commentator Neil Sr said, according to To express.
Sean continued, “A lot of people are saying ‘oh eventually he’ll get over that and they’ll be able to reconcile’, to people who know Prince William well, basically Prince William. Won’t move on because he sees no reason to. He doesn’t really understand what was the motivation behind the two of them sitting down to do the interview, and it could be his own waste for him.”
Author believes Prince Harry’s upcoming memoir may hurt Prince William the most
Prince William’s warning to Prince Harry about Meghan Markle turned out to be true, says royal expert
Harry will publish a memoir in 2022 that shares more details about his time in the royal family. Many believe that, once again, the royal family will be cast in a negative light. Writer Angela Levine also thinks that the memoir will hurt William the most.
“William is the one who will come out of this worst-case scenario,” Levine said. “There’s a line between William and Harry, and basically if Harry says things that are inappropriate about the monarchy, that’s William’s future. It’s not Harry’s future, he’s out of it now, but it William has a future.”
