Royal Expert rips primetime special
Royal commentator and film critic Richard Fitzwilliams weighed in on why the Sussex primetime special, which had high ratings, did not withhold the award.
“He was given a very easy life – there was not a single point that Oprah pushed him,” he added daily star. “Oprah as an interviewer never pushed her. It was clearly rehearsed and parts of it were questionable. You can see why an awards ceremony would show flaws that the average viewer wouldn’t be able to pick up on. The fact that it performed so well with the audience would not give it the right to win by itself.”
Several claims made by the couple during that meeting with Oprah were later debunked, with Meghan saying about Archie not receiving the title. The Duchess of Sussex also claimed that she and Harry were married in a private ceremony days before their royal wedding, but the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, said this was false.
“I had several private and pastoral meetings with the Duke and Duchess before the wedding,” Welby explained to the Italian newspaper Republic. “The legal marriage was on a Saturday” [May 19, 2018]. I signed the marriage certificate, which is a legal document, and if I had signed it knowing that it was false I would have committed a serious criminal offence. “
