- Ms Nessa’s body was found under a pile of leaves near a community center just a day after the attack

An ex-Domino delivery driver accused of thrashing elementary school teacher Sabina Nessa ‘in a premeditated and predatory attack’ was sent into custody today.
Kosi Selamaj, 36, is accused of walking for half an hour at Cater Park in Kidbrook, southeast London, and then murdering a 28-year-old woman minutes from her home.
Ms Nessa leaves her home on Estelle Road on 17 September after making arrangements to visit a friend at the Depot Bar in Pegler Square in Kidbrook Village, south-east London.
About 24 hours later, a member of the public found his body near the OneSpace Community Center, hidden under a pile of leaves.
It is claimed that his assailant used a 2 feet long weapon to strike him repeatedly before knocking him unconscious.
Selmaj, who appeared at the Old Bailey via video link to HMP Wormwood Scrubs wearing a green and yellow prison-issue jumpsuit, was remanded in custody after indicating not guilty at an earlier trial.
The Albanian national of Eastbourne, Sussex, who heard the proceedings through an interpreter, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

28-year-old Sabina Nessa is originally from Bedfordshire. Ms Nessa died on 17 September while passing through Cater Park in Kidbrook, south-east London, to visit a friend.
Selamaj, who has no previous convictions, was described as a quiet introvert by neighbors and local shoppers in the seaside town of Eastbourne.
Until recently, Selmaj was living with his Romanian girlfriend in a burger takeaway flat in the center of Eastbourne, but the couple recently parted ways.
A neighbor said: ‘The police arrived at around 3 am on Sunday. It wasn’t until I left at 8 in the morning that I noticed they were still here and they have been here ever since.
‘What we’ve seen was really cool. I have a little girl and she has offered to take the buggy for me. He has helped me open the bin lid and he seemed like a really nice person.’
An employee of a news agent near the flat where Selmaj was staying said he would come into the shop to turn up his phone or energy key, but would not talk.
In the Old Bailey, Prosecutor Alison Morgan QC said: ‘The defendant is 36 years old as of this year and there was no prior conviction.
‘He is an Albanian citizen. There is nothing to suggest the defendant and the deceased knew each other.
‘The prosecution suggests it was a premeditated and predatory attack on a stranger.
‘At the time of these incidents, the defendant was residing in a flat in Eastbourne, East Sussex.
‘He has a legal position in this country. He was working in a garage in the Eastbourne area.
‘ On the evening of September 17, Sabina Nessa made plans to meet up with a friend at a bar called The Depot in Kidbrook Village.
‘To get to that spot, he took a route through the cater park in Kidbrook Village.
He was attacked and murdered at the cater park. Some of his actions in the park and the attack on him were captured in the CCTV footage.
On remand, London Recorder Judge Mark Loucraft said, “The next hearing in this case will be on 16 December.”
The suspect is believed to have been working as a Domino’s delivery driver in Eastbourne and is believed to be originally from Eastern Europe.

More than 500 well-wishers, including Ms Nessa’s sister Jebina, gathered in Pegler Square on Friday.
Ms Morgan continued: ‘The postmortem examinations are ongoing.
‘Pathologists have indicated several possible causes of death, but they are ongoing as consideration is being given to what else may have happened through the attack on the deceased at that time.’
Ms Morgan said: ‘At the time of these incidents the defendant was living at an address in Eastbourne.
‘He has legal status in this country and was working in a garage in the Eastbourne area.
Mr Selamaj of Eastbourne, East Sussex, was arrested in the seaside town in the early hours of Sunday, and a light-colored Nissan Micra was seized in a residential street about half a mile away.
On Friday, hundreds of people, including Ms Nessa’s sister, gathered in her memory to light a candle held in Pegler Square, Kidbrook.
Jabina Yasmin Islam cried as soon as she addressed the crowd.
She said: ‘Words can’t describe how we’re feeling, it’s like we’re stuck in a nightmare and can’t get out of it – our world is shattered, we’re just lost for words’ Huh.
‘No family should go through the phase we are going through.’
