Haliburton, Ont. – Canadian authorities are looking for suspects after $11 million in pure silver was stolen from a shipping container in Montreal nearly two years ago.
According to Toronto police, silver bullion was stolen from a shipping container in January 2020.
the police said Press release On Tuesday, the silver bars had serial numbers embedded in the metal and a number of stamps, including “Korea Zinc”.
“Investigators believe that some of the silver was melted into ingots (small bricks) to give a better chance of avoiding suspicion during the sale,” Toronto police said in the statement.
Officials said some silver was recovered south of the border in Toronto, British Columbia and Massachusetts.
Police released photos showing the large, blue containers in which the silver was shipped as well as the barrels being carried in shipping containers.
The photos show a gray shipping container, marked as MSKU 403 026 7 22G1.
Police said investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have found the silver bars or is concerned they may have found by-products of the stolen metal.
