Three-time World Cup winner Pele has been discharged from hospital as his recovery continues after an operation to remove a tumor from his colon.
The 80-year-old underwent surgery earlier this month after tests revealed a tumor, but has now announced on social media that he is back at home.
in one instagram Post, Pele shared a photo of himself with wife Marcia Aoki and hospital staff.
Captioning the upload, he said: “When the road is tough, celebrate each step of the journey.
“Focus on your happiness. It’s true that I can’t jump anymore, but over the past few days, I’ve been punching in the air more often than usual.
“I am very happy to be back home. I would like to thank the entire team at Albert Einstein Hospital who made my stay pleasant with a humane and very warm welcome.
“Thank you too all of you who from afar have filled my life with so many messages of love.”
Pele was admitted to hospital in August, where he was given ‘regular exams’, which were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this month a tumor was detected in his colon and he underwent surgery to resolve his medical condition.
Pele left intensive care on 14 September, but was taken back three days later as a precaution after acid reflux.
He returned to a regular ward three days later, was festively punched in the air, and is now fit enough to continue his recovery at home.
Pele and daughter Kelly Nascimento have been reassuring fans about the improving icon’s status on Instagram throughout September.
skin wrote On Wednesday: “When life presents a challenge, it’s always easier to face it with a smile on your face.
“Do me a favor when you see this post. Smile with me!”
Pele is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in history, helping Santos win six Brazilian titles and the Copa Libertadores twice.
His 1,279 goals in 1,363 games – including friendlies – is recognized as the highest score in a professional career.
