in a previous interview with us weekly, Pras Michael explained that the disagreement over the song ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ resulted in a major fallout. “When we reunited, when we were recording, you felt the magic in the studio, it was going to be explosive,” he said. “I remember Wyclef [Jean] And I was working on ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ which was a Fuji record, our record was ‘Lips Don’t Lie’ or something like that. but laurin [Hill] did not like.”
The president of Epic Records later called Jean and Michael, explaining that they needed a song for Shakira. Michael told her that The Fugees was over because Hill was opposed to ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ and other arguments. He then reworked the song to fit Shakira’s voice.

‘Hips Don’t Lie’ was released as a duet between Shakira and Jean. The song was featured as part of the tracklist for the re-issue of her seventh studio album, Oral Fixation, Vol. 2, and was released as the album’s second single in 2006.

‘Hips Don’t Lie’ was an instant hit and popular across all sectors of radio, video concerts and beyond. The song reached the #1 55 chart, including the US Billboard Hot 100. ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ became Shakira’s first and only number 1 single in the United States. The song won a People’s Choice Award, an MTV Latin America Video Music Award, and an MTV Video Music Award.
Hips Don’t Lie broke the record for most radio plays in a week. It also became the fastest selling digital download song in the United States. The song was certified quadruple platinum and also sold over 4 million digital copies and 1.9 million ringtones. It is one of the country’s most successful singles.
Fuji are reuniting for the 25th anniversary of their sophomore album
Despite the ups and downs, The Fugees recently announced that they are reuniting on stage for the first time in 15 years. The group is embarking on a world tour to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their Sophistication album, Score.
