Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Revealed in 2019, but still remains a Cliff Booth mystery. Did he really kill his wife? Quentin Tarantino’s wild reimagining of Charles Manson’s Hollywood killing spree stars Brad Pitt as Cliff, Leonardo DiCaprio as Rick Dalton and Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate. Struggling actor Rick and his bestie/stunt Double Cliff become heroes, but rumors of Cliff killing his wife make things suspicious. Tarantino addressed the film’s dilemma.
Quentin Tarantino reveals Cliff’s murder streak in ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’
Tarantino released the book version of his film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: A Novel, in June 2021. It is not a complete adaptation of the film, rather it further develops its main characters and takes the story forward from being watched on screen by the audience till the end. With that in mind, Cliff Booth’s web gets a little sticky.
During a recent interview EmpireIn this book, Tarantino discusses the book and how he addressed that looming question about Pitt’s character in the novel. Cliff has a murderous streak, and one of his victims was actually his wife, Billy. In the film, Kurt Russell’s Randy doesn’t want to deal with Cliff because of his shady past.
A flashback shows Cliff and Billy on a boat holding a spear gun. No one saw him shoot and kill his wife on screen, but Tarantino wrote it all down in the novel. He hit her with a harpoon, and she cut it in half. But he was sorry about it.
In true Tarantino style, he attempted to “hold her body together” for seven hours while he talked and made amends. When the Coast Guard arrived, they could not save his bloody, mutilated body. And Cliff ran away telling everyone that it was a diving accident. Tarantino chose not to include the scene in the film, calling it “horrible”.
“KNB must have figured it out,” he told Empire, citing a special effects studio. “I wouldn’t have CGI it, that’s for sure. It would be weird and weird and it might even be a little weird, as it is on the page. But it’s doable.”
Tarantino also changed the ending of the story
After returning from Italy, Cliff and Rick encounter Manson’s team of assassins, and a chaotic fight ensues. The film ends with Rick getting a chance to befriend Sharon. But Tarantino omitted a conversation between Trudy Fraser and Rick from the film that felt like a story. truth End.
The pair expressed their gratitude for their work and the scene brought tears to DiCaprio’s eyes. Although he cut it from the film, it is in the book as the “third act”.
“I knew pretty much from the beginning that I wasn’t going to include the end of the movie,” Tarantino said. “And that seemed the right time.” Fans can purchase the book online or at a local retailer.
