About 60 volunteers from the Okanagan Forest Task Force cleared tons of garbage from Crown Land along Beaver Lake Road on Sunday.
“We’ve been cleaning since 2016 and have removed 360,000 pounds of garbage from the backcountry,” said Ken Blake, chairman of the Okanagan Forest Task Force.
The task force took on the task of cleaning up the backcountry because it seemed no one else was doing it.
“It’s amazing how much rubbish we’re getting out of the woods,” said volunteer Corinna Stobb. “It’s kind of sick.”
For all the work done over the years, BC’s Conservation Officers Service awarded a special recognition award to the Okanagan Forest Task Force, all of its volunteers, and sponsors.
“It’s wonderful to get some recognition for the whole group”, Blake said.
