OISIN Murphy has posted a photo of his bloodied and battered face in the midst of his epic jockey title fight with William Buick.
The Irishman, 26, holds a four-win lead over his nearest rival at the time of writing.
But with both of them in action in Nottingham, that could all change by the time the game ends today.
The 33-year-old has a favorite in Buick in the first two competitions, while Murphy has the market leader in the next two.
All Murphy has to do to claim his third straight flat jockeys championship crown is to stay one step ahead of Buick, which lost three crucial rides on Monday in a bizarre twist of fate.
Having said that, Murphy lost his own mounts last Friday after a failed breathalyzer test in Newmarket.
24 hours before Nicky Henderson won the big Csarevich handicap on the buzz – the reigning champion apologized to everyone he ‘let down’.
Just a week earlier, Murphy was taken to the hospital after a strange paddock incident required stitches.
Murphy had just stepped on the Oasis Gift when the horse unloaded the bolt and sent it flying through a rail.
The video shows the moment the jockey’s face hit the barrier as the horse collided with it and ran before eventually being caught.
Murphy later tweeted: “Thank you to all the medical staff @salisburyraces + hospital @NHSEnglandLDN.
“I have a few stitches on my lips + face. I have already been discharged.
“Very grateful for his work and all the kind messages.”
It appears that the selfie Murphy posted to his 58,000 Instagram followers came after the horrific incident.
And he wrote alongside this latest picture: “150 winners + I hope a few more before Saturday @ascotracecourse.
“Rollercoaster ride with some really fast horses.”
Murphy and Buick’s Titanic season-long battle looks like it will have an exciting ending at Ascot on Saturday.
Both will be in action in the flat racing finale, with Murphy winning the title 4-9 and Buick 7-4.
