Hulu’s new show season finale nine perfect strangers was released last night and, well, we have some questions. While the show effectively summed up all the storylines and answered many of the questions that arose throughout the season, there are still parts of the finale and season that confuse fans or make no sense.
1. ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ Focused on Marconis
[Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Nine Perfect Strangers finale]
At the beginning of the season, we learn that the Marconi family lost a member of their family, Zack, to suicide. While the Tranquilium has nine guests, in the last few episodes, the Marconis become the focal point as Masha uses them as guinea pigs for her drug cocktail.
“It’s such an irresistibly disappointing show because the scenes from Marconis (and Masha) are some of the most grounded and real and emotional scenes on television I’ve ever seen,” one reddit The user wrote about the finale. “Those moments from the show are really excellent and analyze the grief and trauma in a way I’ve never seen before. But it seems the writers focus all their energy on the Marconis and ignore the rest of the show.” .
There were several interesting stories that wrapped up quickly, focusing on the Marconi family.
2. Where it all ended
The show ended with great joy. The last few scenes show where each character ends up after Masha is taken away by the police. Some scenarios made sense, like Lars reconnecting with his ex and having a baby. What stuck out the most, however, was that Ben and Jessica seemed to be handling the tranquility. Ben and Jessica came to the retreat being relatively materialistic and didn’t take too much of a stroke to work. He also got the shortest screen time of the characters in Tranquilium. So, after Masha’s shuddering to throw him as the new owner of Tranquillium, a little more explanation was needed.
3. Was ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ ending a dream?
One part of the finale that was particularly confusing was how real it was. During the “Where Are They Now” scenes, Francis and Tony are shown in a very nice house with a dog and Tony’s two daughters. But then, it comes back to Tony and Frances on their first date outside the Tranquilium and Frances writes a story in her notebook. This left some fans wondering whether the characters’ endings were real or if they were simply things that Frances wrote in her fictional story.
“Thought the ending was fiction written by Francis,” wrote one Reddit user. “After the scenes showing the happy ending, it goes back to Francis’ writings in the restaurant.”
“This is not the real ending,” wrote another person. “This is what Francis was writing. His imagination.”
The series never seems to answer as to whether the characters’ endings are legitimate or just a part of Frances’ imagination, so it could leave room for another season if the show is renewed.
