“Just for clarity, he no longer had COVID. What COVID did to Nick is what it does to a lot of people—it comes and wreaks havoc on your body and then goes away. You’re left with what doctors call lungs that look like Swiss cheese,” Braff explained.
“He said it looked like he had been a heavy smoker all his life. And he was on every machine they could put him on, and in the end, they were all full. He had days like that.” where he was doing fine and everyone would get excited—and then it would all go back to zero. The machines were really, really keeping him alive.”
It’s just ‘spoiled, got worse, got worse’
Braff explained that it was “sad” because Kloots was 10 feet away from him and his girlfriend, Florence Pugh, but they couldn’t hug him. He also revealed that Kloots was not able to see Nick Cordero in person after leaving him in the hospital. He thought he would be there for a few hours. But, “she was never able to see him fully conscious again.”
“Can you imagine how sad it is, your partner is in the hospital, you can’t even be there? You can’t be by their side, you can’t hug them, you can’t kiss them, you can’t make them happy.” You have to do it on FaceTime which is arranged by a generous nurse,” Braff said.

“He just got worse, worse, worse, until they put him on a ventilator and then he never came back,” he continued. “He woke up a little bit and had some exciting moments where he’d say, ‘Nick if you can see us’ and he’d do it, but he wouldn’t do it all the time. It was only occasionally.”
Zach Braff promises to take care of Nick Cordero’s wife and son
Braff reveals that in Cordero’s last lesson, he asked her to take care of his wife and one-year-old son. It was a promise that Braff didn’t hesitate to make.
“We are all going to do our part to give this child an extraordinary life,” Braff said on behalf of himself and Donald Fasson. “I promise I’m going to do this for the rest of my life and I want to make her proud… you and I are going to be very involved in her life.”
