Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are not BFFs. Unlike Princess Diana or Sarah, the Duchess of York, they were not friends before joining the British royal family. The Duchess of Sussex has publicly discussed her relationship with the Duchess of Cambridge. But one royal writer says the women were not tied, at least partly, for “practical” reasons.
Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle getting to know each other was influenced by Kate Middleton’s pregnancy with Prince Louis
According to Andrew Morton, author of the explosive biography of Diana, Catherine’s pregnancy with now 3-year-old Prince Louis played a part in getting to know Meghan. In an updated version of his unofficial biography, Meghan: A Hollywood PrincessMorton wrote that Catherine “didn’t have much energy” to bond with Meghan ahead of her royal wedding to Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.
“While building up to Meghan’s marriage, Kate was experiencing her third difficult pregnancy and was focusing on her well-being,” Morton wrote. Mirror. “He didn’t have much energy to bond with his new neighbor.”

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton didn’t live around, making it more difficult to get to know each other
A lot of royals live in Kensington Palace but this was not the case when Meghan and Catherine were getting to know each other. According to Morton, the two weren’t often in close proximity, which meant they couldn’t stop for just a cup of tea and some conversation.
“It was a practical matter as much as anything. Kate spent weekends and holidays at Anmer Hall, Cambridge’s country home in Norfolk,” Morton said in her book.
A wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II, the sprawling Georgian mansion looks like the home of William and Catherine. So he has spent a lot of time in recent years.
In lead-up Meghan and Harry’s wedding, the parents of two were no longer living close to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. As noted by Morton Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, they were “about a three-hour drive away, living in a large, remote, rented property on the Great Tew Estate in Oxfordshire.”
“Harry’s dream of two joint happy families seemed far away,” said the author.
Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle didn’t have much time to get to know each other outside of public events
Another obstacle stood in the way of Catherine and Meghan getting closer. They had “little opportunity” to get each other “away from public events”, Morton explained. When they “chat and clap and cheer” at Wimbledon, their chances of tying the knot were few and far between.
Today, Meghan and Catherine live even further apart. Meghan and Harry call Montecito, California, home, while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge still live in England.
