Josh Duggar’s trial is drawing a lot of attention to the Duggar family, and their recent court hearing is also giving them a new light. Many Duggar family fans and critics suspect that the rest of the family wants him to make a plea, as it may also keep him out of the limelight. And according to family critics, Josh has a limited amount of time before whether or not to accept the formal plea. Here are the latest Josh Duggar updates.
Josh Duggar’s trial is drawing to a close — and he’ll reportedly have a settlement soon
Josh Duggar’s trial continues on the current Duggar news cycle. In late September 2021 he and his legal team headed to court to fight for four motions. The motions suggested that Josh’s case should be dropped altogether, and he also noted some evidence, such as photographs of Josh’s hands, should be suppressed. However, the judge voted against the motions presented by Josh’s legal team.
So, what’s next for Josh? “The case will proceed as usual, possibly with more plea deals being offered, more searches (fact checks), and the drafting of appeals (for defense),” a reddit User noted.
October 18, 2021 is the deadline for another Reddit user, Josh, to accept a formal plea deal after the case noted. “That means it’s the last date that [Josh] Can be convicted and told what his punishment is going to be.” reddit User wrote. “He can continue to plead after this date, but what he gives is an ‘open plea’, where the judge hears only [Josh] is convicted and then the judge might hear of some mitigating factors, and then sentence him.
Jim Bob Duggar probably wants Josh Duggar to deal with the plea
Fans and critics of the Duggar family suspect that Jim Bob Duggar may inspire his son to make a plea. Josh Duggar’s lawsuit may further dent Duggar’s family name. To keep the family out of the limelight, Jim Bob wants Josh to deal, plead guilty, and not go to trial at all.
“And this right here is a prime example of why I think Jim Bob will do absolutely anything and everything to avoid taking Josh to the test,” another reddit User wrote. “Josh goes to the test, there are going to be days and weeks of articles like this–features coming out, every detail is written about. … What in the Duggar House and iBLP outside the TV cameras Growing up, there’s something to learn about it.”
Additionally, if Josh’s case reaches the “open plea” stage, it could spell doom for him – but it may also be a better option than going to trial. “Theoretically, a conviction in the open plea phase could result in a similar sentence that would come from a trial,” wrote a Reddit user explaining the plea deal. “But probably not because a judge would likely look at the decision making as a factor mitigating the offense. And you still save yourself the time and energy of going through the trial.”
