John Lewis has created a heartwarming ad about the magic of experiencing Christmas for the first time.
In his 2021 Christmas advert titled The Unexpected Guest, a teenage boy named Nathan meets an alien named Skye, who has come to Earth by accident.
Through friendship, Nathan shows Skye a series of celebratory family traditions.
They decorate a tree, eat minced meat, throw snowballs, watch a Christmas movie and he even gifts her a Christmas jumper.
But the ad ends bitterly, as Sky has set up his ship and must return home.

John Lewis says it wanted to spread the joy, as many of us couldn’t celebrate Christmas in the traditional way last year or share it with loved ones as we wanted to.
It wanted to remind the audience of the magic of experiencing Christmas for the first time.
The message at the end of the two-minute-long ad says: “For Christmas as magical as yours.”
Claire Pointon, Director of Clients, says: “There is nothing more magical than discovering the joy of Christmas for the first time and enjoying your favorite festive moments with loved ones.
“After the last 18 months, we wanted our ad to truly celebrate it as we look forward to a brighter future.”
This isn’t the first time John Lewis has used a space theme for his commercials.
In 2015’s Man on the Moon, the retailer teamed up with Age UK to deliver the message that everyone loves.

The advertisement is also being released earlier this year as it usually falls in the second week of November.
The retailer said it wanted to reflect how shoppers were buying Christmas items earlier than usual.
This year’s soundtrack is presented by 20-year-old singer-songwriter Lola Young from South London.
It is a version of “Together in Electric Dreams”, originally released by Human League lead singer Philippe Ocke and Italian composer Giorgio Moroder in 1984.
The ad will air on social media from 8 a.m. and will air for the first time at 8.15 p.m. during The Pride of Britain Awards on ITV.
This year John Lewis is selling its largest range of merchandise, including: christmas jumper given to Sky.
It comes in men’s, women’s and children’s sizes and costs between £14 – £29.
John Lewis is donating 10% of the profits from each jumper to his Give a Little Love charity, which supports Fairshare and Home-Start UK.
Its Christmas Emporium, which houses 11 stores, also helps bring the ad to life, with many of the items on sale.
John Lewis has also released two Snapchat lenses to celebrate the launch of the ad.
As well as giving My John Lewis members access to an augmented reality virtual game on its app and website.
Earlier this week John Lewis teased fans by setting up spacecraft at two UK locations.
In 2020, A Little Love ad was sung by British soul singer Celeste.
