With just 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter on Thursday night, Burrow lined up with five wide receivers. On Burrow’s left, he hit CJ Uzoma hard and overtook Chris Evans. To his right, he had wide receivers Trenton Irwin and Mike Thomas.
Neither of those four players has had a significant role in the Cincinnati Bengals passing game this season. But in the slot, Burrow had wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. It is Burrow and Chase who represent the extent of the Bengals offense, with Burrow finding his only great playmate on the field for the first time.
When the Bengals needed to bounce back, Burrow made all the game-changing throws in his best second half of the season. After ending a Cincinnati offense in the first half, Burrow took over and led the Bengals. 24-21 win over Jacksonville Jaguars On “Thursday Night Football” at Paul Brown Stadium.
Burrow led by a five-minute drive at the end of the fourth quarter, and kicker Evan McPherson scored a 35-yard game-winning field goal.
When the Bengals season was at its lowest point and when the offense looked lifeless, as it has all season, Burrow bowled a 44-yard deep to wide receiver Chase down the left. The Bengals went 14-0 at the start of the second quarter when Burrow called the first deep ball to Chase.
And just like every other team the Bengals have played in this season, the Jaguars didn’t stop it. Cincinnati’s explosive first game got the Bengals in motion, and that play began a comeback.
It almost looked easy when Buro took the Bengals back from a 14-point deficit. The campaign ended with a play action pass to Uzoma, who took up most of his yards after a catch on his 22-yard score.

After a three-and-out by the Bengals defence, the Bengals had a 12-play, 86-yard touchdown drive that tied the score. When the Jaguars took a 21–14 lead, Buro went back to the chase.
With 10:30 in the fourth quarter, wide receiver Tyler Boyd had left the game with a minor hand injury. Bengals’ other starting receiver T Higgins was ruled out on Thursday with a shoulder injury. The Bengals’ offense often relies on empty set formations, but the Bengals went for a five-man combination that has hardly played together this season.
Uzoma is making a hard start for Bengal but has a limited role in the pass game. Evans and Irvine have hardly played this season. Thomas took two catches in Thursday’s game. The personnel did not mind as Chase again created a separation in the middle of the field. On 2 and 9, Burrow found the best receiver on the field for a 12-yard advantage, to get the Bengals into scoring position.
After the first half, where the Bengals had a total of 107 yards, Boyd added a 100-yard game, taking several competitive catches in the middle of the field in third. Even without Higgins, Chase and Boyd stepped up in a skillful second half to make up for the Bengals’ offense.
With five minutes left and the score level, Buro had the opportunity to lead his second game-winning drive of the season. He made the first down throw to Boyd, CJ Uzoma and Samje Perrin. When a holding call pushed the Bengals back, Burrow threw Uzoma under the pressure of a 25-yard pickup.
After the Bengals didn’t score in the first half, Burrow gave Cincinnati their third win of the season, and McPherson scored his second game-winner.
1 overall draft picks, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw for 204 yards and scored a speedy touchdown. However, he – as well as head coach Urban Meyer – has yet to experience his first NFL victory.
