Jesy Nelson has claimed that she was forced to do bikini shoots during her time at Little Mix, even when she was feeling depressed.
The 30-year-old, who left the group in December after nine years, opened up about her mental health struggles while in the band, as she explained her decision to go solo.
Speaking to Fearon Cotton for her podcast Happy Place, she said: “It’s the f**king who’s tough in a girl band. It’s like a machine. You just don’t have time to be there. Or do that What you really want to do.”
Describing her life since leaving, she said: “If I wake up and my manager turns to me: ‘Do you want to do this?’
“I have a choice to go, no I don’t or yes I do.
“I’ll have days when I’m thinking: ‘How do I get out of bed today. I’m feeling so depressed I don’t know how to get out of bed today?’
“I have to do a photoshoot in a bikini.”
She continued: “I felt like I had no control over my life.
“I didn’t get into this industry for people that literally tear me down for what I look like.”
The band was formed in 2011 on the eighth series of The X Factor and was the first group to win the competition.
Little Mix, originally consisting of Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Jessie, became one of the most successful outputs from the singing competition and one of the biggest girl groups of the past 10 years, having produced over 50 Worldwide sales of more than one million records.
