Sadly, Debra Morgan is dead. So, some fans were surprised to see that Jennifer Carpenter is coming back for Showtime to play Deb. Dexter: New Blood. What did Carpenter have to share with curious viewers about how her character is returning to the role for the new series and why she thinks fans love Dexter?
Deb Morgan dies in ‘Dexter’ series finale
series finale right was not popular among all fans. There were a few separate complaints, but some thought the ending of Deb’s story didn’t do justice to the character. She died of a blood clot that followed a gunshot wound she had arguably gone off the rails on.
Arguably, finding out that your brother is a serial killer would, in itself, be a lot to process gracefully. Not to mention all the other things that happened to Deb because of Dexter. But while some fans weren’t satisfied, Carpenter pointed out Hollywood Reporter that she was.
She said she knew her character would die out and admitted that she initially “didn’t want him to die.” Still, Carpenter said it was “incredibly laxative” to “be able to set it up that way.” She elaborated, “The way Dexter sets her body in the water, I felt like I was able to let her flow.”
This brings up the next question. how is deb? Dexter: New Blood When did the audience last see him drown in the sea?
Jennifer Carpenter: Dexter is ‘sick’
In a recent interview, Carpenter said that Deb would return to Dexter partly because “he’s sick” and noted how it ruined his life. “He vandalized her and mutilated her entire existence,” she noted. So, she’ll still be alive in her head, and it looks like she’ll have some guilt about how things ended for her. But to be sure, Deb isn’t actually alive.
Some fan theories speculate that she would be like Harry, existing as a character in Dexter’s mind and acting as a conscious to guide him through his murderous crimes. The new series begins ten years after the original was discontinued, and some fans speculate that the fictional Deb discouraged Dexter from urging his son Harrison to see him for the time being.
Clearly, Harrison had a grudge against his father though. So, at some point, he also returns to Dexter’s life. Dexter: New Blood.
‘Dexter: New Blood’ is the ninth season of ‘Dexter’
The new series has been described as a revival, as opposed to a reboot or remake. Essentially, this means that they are moving into the future from where they left off.
Therefore, Dexter is living under an alias and quietly avoiding murder in New York. However, something will prompt him to return to his old ways. With his dead sister living inside his head and his enraged son searching for him, it’s easy to see how this could happen.
Carpenter also shared a bit about what she thinks gives Dexter her enduring appeal to television audiences. “Everyone wants to see him like he’s someone who feels things like a real man,” she said, but added a reminder. “We’re talking about a show about a serial killer who is neurotic and prone to hurting others.”
