Man City ace Jack Grealish eloped with a teammate who is alleged to have raped a girl just hours later.
£100 million star and partner Riyad Mahrez was in a nightclub with Benjamin Mendy before he committed the crime.
Mendy, 27, has been charged with multiple sexual assaults and has been remanded in custody ahead of trial early next year.
The allegations also include that he raped a 17-year-old girl at his home in the early hours of August 23.
A few hours ago, he was seen with 26-year-old Grealish and 30-year-old Mahrez in Chinwhite, Manchester.
This means the police could approach England stars Grealish and Mahrez as potential witnesses.
There is no suggestion that he had any involvement in the alleged attack or was present at Mendy’s home in Prestbury, Cheshire.
A source said: “They started mingling at one place and went to different places during the night.
“But Grealish and Mahrez didn’t go back to Mendy’s house that night.
“Unfortunately what started as a fun night out at the club ended with some serious allegations.”
“Everyone in Manchester City was shocked when Mendy was arrested and charged.”
World Cup winner Mendy faced four counts of rape and one sexual assault against three alleged victims from October 2020 to August 2021.
He was remanded into custody at Chester Crown Court on 10 September, and faces to spend Christmas in prison.
Four days earlier, his friend Louis Saha Maturi, 40, of Eccles, GTR Manchester, appeared before the magistrate in Chester.
He faces four cases of rape of three complainants above 16 years of age between April and August this year.
Their affairs are intertwined. The pair will appear in court on November 15 before facing trial on January 24.
Grealish joined Prem Champs City in August for a British record transfer fee of £100 million from Aston Villa.
A spokesman for Mahrez said: “Riyadh is not a witness and is not being treated equally.”
Grealish’s representative was contacted.
