I am proud to be part of the trucking industry, especially during the holiday season
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always been fascinated by the open road. It had such a significant impact on me that I decided to make trucking my career. For over 21 years, I have been proud to be part of an essential industry. But my current load gives me a particularly proud feeling.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been part of a team of professional truck drivers working to safely transport a US Capital Christmas tree from California to our nation’s capital, Washington, DC.
Since the tree was cut from Six Rivers National Forest in Eureka, Calif., on October 23, our team has traveled more than 4,000 miles to transport the 84-foot and 19-foot-wide white cedar, affectionately known as ” Sugar Bear”. On our Kenworth truck to DC. Throughout the trip, my team and I made 26 stops from coast to coast and met some amazing people in dozens of beautifully diverse communities across our country.

I am so excited to be part of the US Capitol Christmas Tree team because it is a way for me to do something good for my country. With congenital health conditions preventing me from serving in the military, I welcomed the opportunity to serve our country through this special contribution: providing a “People’s Tree” for all to see.

Not only am I grateful for the opportunity of a lifetime, but I feel incredibly proud to represent my company, System Transport, during this experience. Our company was selected among 500,000 trucking companies nationwide to safely transport this year’s tree.
Nothing makes me proud more than being part of the trucking industry, especially during the holiday season – when delivery is so important. Food at holiday treats and the lights on your tree are some of the things that are delivered to you by a truck that helps make the holidays joyful and bright.
This year, as we recover and emerge from the backlog of the pandemic, the pressure on our nation’s supply chain has increased. I know one thing for sure; The trucking industry is working hard to prevent any disruption in delivery to your home and store shelves.
Trucking is really the backbone of our country and economy. Every day, 3.6 million professional truck drivers on America’s roads deliver to more than 80% of our communities. Day after day, we deliver everything we supply to our communities – from the medical supplies in our hospitals to the produce in our grocery stories, to the clothing on our backs.
Trucking is what really sustains the nation and moves us all, and I am grateful to be related to such a great industry.

As we prepare to make our final stop in Washington DC, I look forward to attending the tree lighting festival on the Capitol lawn and seeing the tree – decorated with thousands of ornaments made by Californians – grace the Capitol area. illuminates.
Deciding to join the trucking industry was one of the greatest choices I’ve ever made, but I never imagined that my career would lead me to this unique opportunity. During this holiday season, I have a lot to be thankful for, but I am especially grateful to be able to serve my family and my country in such a wonderful way this year.
