The company said on Friday that WarnerMedia-owned HBO will be offering current and former customers a huge discount after the cable network exits Amazon Prime Video’s channel platform.
HBO lost an estimated five million customers who signed up through Amazon after a deal between the two corporate giants expired on Wednesday. The discount offer is an attempt to retain users whose subscriptions have been reduced.
Users can subscribe to the company’s streaming platform HBO Max at 50% off till September 26. Subscriptions will cost $7.49 per month for the first six months, which is less than its usual cost of $14.99 per month.

HBO said the discount is available to all customers who have accessed the network through Prime Video, as well as new and returning HBO Max customers. Users can sign up for the deal on HBOMax.com or through the Apple, Google, LG, Microsoft, Sony, Roku and Vizio platforms.
WarnerMedia and Amazon struck a deal to remove HBO from Prime Video in 2020. HBO executives say the decision was made to establish a direct relationship with paid customers rather than relying on a third party.

HBO Max had approximately 68 million global paid subscribers as of July. WarnerMedia estimates that HBO and HBO Max will have between 70 million and 73 million global subscribers by the end of the year.
