Chinese Mustang Mach-E Made for the Local Market
Local production of the Ford Mustang Mach-E began in China on Monday as the automaker looks to expand into the world’s biggest market for electric vehicles.
NS SUV Chang’an is being manufactured by Ford joint venture operations in the central Chinese city of Chongqing.
This is the first time that a car named Mustang has been made in the country. Ford is launching with five models, including the high-performance GT First Edition and two trims priced under 300,000 yuan (~$47,000) to qualify for the local EV incentives at $265,000 (~$41,500). The Mustang Mach-E is being offered through a direct sales network that Ford is establishing in the country for its growing portfolio of EVs, and has no plans to export the vehicles to the US.
