Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl recently stated that he and Kurt Cobain lived to music and three corn dogs every day when he wrote Nirvana’s groundbreaking album, “Nevermind.” Grohl thought of their small living arrangements and lack of funds. But he fondly remembered that it was music that really became his fuel and his inspiration to create his art.
What Did Kurt Cobain & Dave Grohl Eat While Writing Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’?
Grohl remembered getting all his food at a local gas station. “There was a gas station across the street from the apartment where Kurt and I lived,” Grohl recalled recently. BBC.
“And they had a three for 99 percent corn dog deal,” he continued. “And at the time we were rehearsing in this barn. Writing songs that become ‘no point’. And we lived in a small apartment. I fell asleep on the couch, Kurt slept in the living room, and we had no money. ”
“So we didn’t have food,” he reflected. “We had 99 cents. And if you can manage to budget for three corn dogs in a 24-hour period, you can survive on that. And we did what we really wanted to survive on was music. Thing It’s that, you know, if we didn’t have songs. If we didn’t have that band or music. I think everybody just packed up and went home.”
How Much Money Was Nirvana Paid For ‘Nevermind’?
“Nevermind” became a chart-smashing album. But Cobain revealed that the band was not paid much to make the record during those salad days. Initially, the band reportedly received $750,000 for the initial deal. Cobain said it was not the right amount.
“No, we didn’t get that much,” he said in reference to the $750,000 amount. “[We got] $175, 000. 33% tax bracket, 15% for our lawyer, 10% for our manager, $70,000 for sub pop… This left us with about $20,000 to buy equipment. I do not have a place to live at the moment, ”he said in an interview with CTV in 1991.
“We have what was left of the advance.” He continued. “We have a bank account and an accountant, he gives us a little money every month. We’ve been on tour and recording for so long, I haven’t had a chance, I was kicked out of my apartment about three months ago. “
Did Nirvana Make A Lot Of Money For ‘Nevermind’?
Cobain said of his nomadic lifestyle, “Every time we come back, we only have a few days at home, so I usually go to my mother, and I have yet to find someone to live with.” The place has not been found.”
“We are not struggling, financially we are fine. That’s more money than ever in my life. To be able to pay the rent every month, I couldn’t ask for more. Adding, “It is a big decision to end seven years of your life.”
Musician Roberto Loruso was the person who asked Cobain about the deal. he reflected on Interview, recalling how the band was on the verge of stardom at the time. “Nirvana wasn’t very big at the time, so I hadn’t heard any new records,” Loruso recalled. “(I) had no idea the artist was going to have such a huge rise at the time, but it was a big deal for me nonetheless and I was remarkably nervous.”
Grohl remembers that he made “a lot of money” after the album closed. “When I was in Nirvana and Nevermind came out, all of a sudden I was making a ton of money that I never had,” he explained. Bon Appetite. “So I bought a beach house in Noggs Head, NC, and spent the whole summer of ’92 there, Carolina eating pork from this little shack. I realized, ‘Oh, this is barbecue, so simple, But simple and complex.’”
