Five people were arrested after the head of the Victoria Police Department poured liquid on her while attending a ceremony for an indigenous woman killed during a wellness check.
Victoria Police say Chief Dale Manak was attending an event in the B.C. legislature to pay tribute to Chantal Moore, an Indigenous woman from British Columbia who was given a wellness check by New Brunswick Police in 2020. killed during
The police department says the incident happened after a traditional blanket ceremony, in which a suspect poured liquid on the police chief.
Police say Manak was not harmed and that Moore’s mother had invited him to the ceremony.
The department says several others were arrested while officers went to arrest the initial suspect.
Nothing can be said on what charges the accused may face.
