Dolly Parton previously discussed working with the ‘Old Town Road’ singer
Lil Nas X got some praise after Dolly Parton found out about her recent cover of her song “Jolene”.
The 75-year-old country music icon took to Twitter on Wednesday evening to share a note of sorts with the 22-year-old artist as he performed a cover of his single last week in the BBC Radio 1 Live lounge.
“I was so excited when someone told me that Lil Nas X did my song #Jolene. I had to find it and hear it right away… and it’s really cool,” Parton tweeted. “Of course, I love him anyway. I was shocked and I’m honored and happy. I hope he does well for both of us. Thanks @LilNasX.”
Clearly flattering and a little upset to get a shout out from the ladies behind his latest cover, Lil Nas X reacted With a simple: “Holy sh–.”

While some of their mutual fans were delighted by the two’s back-and-forth on Twitter, Parton revealed that in 2019 He was asked to be a part of one of the remixes of Lil Nas X’s hugely popular single “Old Town Road”, but eventually passed out.
“I had the opportunity to be a part of [song],” she explained at the time. “But it had done so well with so many people. I thought, ‘Okay, I’ll wait and do something later. There is no point in going down the same Old Town Road. We have other roads to travel.’”

So, although fans never got to remix the “Old Town Road” with Parton and Megan Thee Stallion, the “Montero” singer. previously expected, he is clearly up for the idea of working with Lil Nas X in the future.
For her recent cover of Jolene, People Reports that the rapper revealed that the cover came together at the last minute.
“We were basically going to do a Nirvana song and then like, we were spinning around and you know, like doing ‘Jolene,’ it was like, Wait a minute. What if we actually did Jolene? ” Lil Nas X said on SiriusXM “andy cohen live”
He continued: “And I think, you know, the context of it, like you just said, completely changes, I was like, ‘Oh, that would be really cool.’ So I went for it. Hey, [I] It’s like my history with the country. So I was like, ah, this is perfect.”
