A fake TikTok account claiming to be run by Dolly Parton amassed thousands of followers before the app’s developers were eventually deemed to be fraudulent.

On Sunday, a TikTok account under the handle @itsdolyparton surfaced, which claimed that fans can follow the 75-year-old singer’s official account. “Dolly” also posted a video of herself in a bright yellow top with matching blue and yellow patterned pants to debut on the app.

The video shows Parton sharing an encouraging message with his audience that “it’s gonna be okay.”

However, a representative for Parton confirmed to Granthshala News that the account had not been officially established by the singer or his team. Instead, it was an unverified user on the platform who tampered with an old video of the star from his Imagination Library website.

“Take a closer look…” said the representative.

Unfortunately, this is impossible as TikTok took immediate action and banned the fake account for violating its community guidelines, specifically on impersonation.

“We do not allow accounts that deceptively masquerade as any other person or entity,” a company representative told Granthshala News.

Still, the deceit and fake videos proved powerful for some users who were eager to see the “Jolene” singer join the popular video sharing platform. People reports that, before the account was taken down, it gained over 680,000 followers and over a million views on the distorted video.

It is unclear whether, given the excessive publicity generated by this fraudulent account, the real Dolly Parton has any plans to join TikTok and capitalize on her apparent interest in her presence there.

Unfortunately, the singer seems to have bigger things on her plate in the year ahead. In August, the country music icon announced that she was co-writing her first novel, titled “Run, Rose, Run,” with bestselling author, James Patterson. It is expected to hit the bookshelf in March of 2022.

In addition, the singer will release a new 12-track album with original songs that were inspired by the book.
