TORONTO — Earlier this week, both liberals and New Democrats promised to introduce legislation that would make it illegal for protesters to block hospital admissions, but legal experts say those laws already exist.
On Monday, several vaccination and anti-lockdown rallies were held outside health facilities across Canada, drawing widespread condemnation and promises from both Liberal leader Justin Trudeau and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh for making such activities illegal.
Granthshala News’ Richard Madan spoke to several legal experts on Tuesday, who said both liberal and NDP laws already exist and that it is governments and the police that are not enforcing them.

Experts said possible charges could include assault, intimidation or mischief.
“We see it when someone runs into a baseball playground, they’re kicked off the field and accused of mischief because they disrupted that baseball game for everyone else,” Daniel Brown, lead attorney for Daniel Brown Law LLP in Toronto, told Granthshala News.
“It is no different when you block the entrance of a hospital. You just can’t do that.”
