George Harrison and his wife Olivia welcomed their only son, Dhani, on August 1, 1978. As a pre-Beatle kid and one of the best recording artists of all time, you can imagine Dhani’s childhood was a bit unconventional. He grew up around great musicians and celebrities. However, apart from being a famous father, Dhani grew up in a bubble of privacy at his family home, Fryer Park.
Many assumed that Dhani must have become a musician just like George. Well that hasn’t happened. It took some time for Dhani to realize that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps.
George Harrison surrounds his son with music
When Dhani was a child, he used to tell his friends that his father “pushes the button” for a living. Little did they know that they were making a Button hit album.
“I spent time with my parents. I was always trying to be with the older kids, and the older kids in my house were like (ELO frontman) Jeff Lynne,” Rich told daily mail. “You’d come home and it was like, ‘Bob Dylan is here.’ It’s hard to get a little bit of perspective on it, like, ‘How was your school exam today?’”
Dhani felt like only one of the older kids because his father treated him like one. “My dad treated me like an adult – I got into it, he taught me how to record from an early age. I grew up in a recording studio,” he said.
However, it does not appear that George imposed music on his son. The former Beetle couldn’t help it; This is what he did to earn a living. There was no way George could save Dhani from all this. Music was all around, and Dhani himself had taken an interest in it. However, there were also instances where the wealthy rebelled against their father’s way of life.

Wealthy Harrison rebelled against his father
Dhani explained that George was not into some of the things he wanted to do when he grew up. The former Beatle was a truly unconventional father. He tried to hang out with his son instead of going to school.
Martin Scorsese’s documentary George Harrison: Living in the Physical World, Dhani said, “He used to tell me every day, ‘You don’t have to go to school today, do you just want to get on a yacht in the South Pacific and run away forever?’
“People would probably say, ‘You’re an idiot for not doing this,’ and maybe in a way, I am,” Rich explained. “But in my family to go to school to rebel, I went to like a quasi-military school. We did CCF one day a week and, who used to tease him, I was walking around in an Air Force uniform. ”
Dhani always thought that his father was cool, but one moment that proved to be true happened when Dhani was about 15 years old. He becomes upset with the police, and his father tells him to “f—k off”. After that the father and son became close, and they “run away from the garden and hid. Don’t tell such things to your mother.”

Music was not the first choice of the rich
George used to say to Dhani, “You look more like me than I do.” Actually, Dhani is the spitting image of his father. It is both a boon and a curse. He had many offers to model, act and, of course, record music, but he didn’t want any of them.
“You know, it’s the best and worst thing about every day—comfort and sadness at the same time,” Dhani said of his father’s resemblance. It’s tough if you’re trying to build your career. “I always knew that if I am going to do anything and be taken seriously in my life, I have to work very hard and work very hard,” Dhani said. “Because being the son of George Harrison you can step foot in the door, but you can’t stay there.”
Initially, Dhani revolted against his father by not going into the music business. He went to Brown University and received his degrees in industrial design and physics. He also joined the rowing club. Straight out of college, he got a job as an aerodynamicist for the British sports car company McLaren.
However, the death of his father in 2001 left him wanting to start his career as a musician. Going into music was a way for the wealthy to remain close to their father after his death. Seeing the events of September 11 and the death of his father made him think, “Well now I’m going to do what I want to do – music, something positive and strong.” It seems his father will say something.
