Daniel Radcliffe is a star that many people have grown up with. They saw him become an adult on screen, and most of them are now adults themselves. Most of them are also on social media, so they naturally look for one of their favorite actors in the world of Instagram and Twitter. But they won’t find him there, and he has a compelling reason for it.
Daniel Radcliffe: Starting from the top
Although he is kind to the movies that made him famous, Radcliffe wouldn’t mind leaving his Harry Potter behind. According to Biography, when the highly-popular movie franchise began, he was only 11 years old, and by the time it ended, he had been playing the role for half his life. Actually, the last film was released a few days before he turned 22.
After it was over, he made a career for himself in both films and live theatre. His very first attempt to break free from his first, famous role was in a play called Equus. He played a troubled teenager with horses. The dark play shook his public perception as an actor, with his complete nudity as the character.
He appeared in movies like Kill Your Darlings, Now You See Me 2, Imperium, And Forest. He has continued to work in theater and occasionally on TV as well.
‘I’ll be totally crazy’ on social media
Recently, Daniel Radcliffe appeared on a YouTube video for Wired. It was a part of the popular series where celebrities answer the most searched questions about themselves. As he studied the questions, he uncovered something startling for a modern star.
He was asked why he was not verified on Instagram, and he replied that it was because he was not actually on the platform.
“I appreciate all of you who are mentally strong enough to be on social media all the time,” he explained. “I’m not one of those people. I’d go completely crazy.”
He later admitted that he occasionally takes a look at Twitter, but only to see other people’s accounts. He has decided that he does not have his own account.
Avoiding social media is nothing new for him
This is not the first time Radcliffe has said that social media is not for him. Last year he appeared in the web series hot ones, Where he quickly answered the questions by eating spicy wings.
The topic turned to social media, and Radcliffe said he didn’t have the right flair for it.
“I’d love to say there’s some kind of intellectual, well-intentioned reason for this because I consider getting a Twitter and I know 100 percent that if I did, you’d be waking up to all the stories like, ‘ Dan Radcliffe gets in a fight with a random person on Twitter,’” he explained.
He admitted that when he was younger, he used to read comments about himself online, and that knowing, good and bad, about what people were saying was not good for him.
“It’s a crazy and bad thing,” he insisted.
Although many celebrities keep in touch with their fans through social media, Radcliffe is not the only one who has decided that staying away is the best option for their mental health. Fans would love to hear from him, but it seems he is doing the right thing to stay healthy and happy.
