A cleaning expert reveals why you shouldn’t always rely on Tik Tok cleaning hacks.
Ann Russell, from England, often posts videos giving her followers advice on cleaning, saving money and general life advice, and her page has garnered over eight million likes.
People often ask Ann how to properly clean the devices on her TikTok account, anrussell03, to find the best way to clean clothing items, and others ask for more general life advice, such as feeling confident or budgeting issues. And Ann is always there to lend a helping hand and advise her.
As always with ‘Cleaning TikTok’ people are sharing hacks to make cleaning their homes easier and stay fresher for longer.
One hack that’s growing in popularity on the app is to use laundry detergent power to make your carpets smell fresh.
However, the hack can do more harm than good, as Ann explained in a video.
Ann said: “Oh sweetheart, I understand why you’re doing this, and it’s a brilliant idea, but here’s the thing, you’re not going to get all that powder out of your carpet.
“That means you’re going to build up soap lather, which will be irritating if you have kids, or if someone goes on it with bare skin.
“It will make your carpet more dirty because it is sticky, I know it smells great but please don’t use soap powder on your carpets.
“If you can afford it get a vacuum extraction machine and wash them, don’t use anything with it, because there will be a lot of soap in the carpet.
“If you need to do it, use something like Shake and Vac or Bicarbonate of Soda.”
People in the comments asked Ann how they could clean their carpets, to which Ann offered some tips.
In a separate video, Ann said the best way to clean your carpets is to use a vacuum extraction machine and wash them or hire someone to do the machine.
Laundry powder can be irritating to the skin and your pet, so it is best to avoid getting it on the carpet.
Users appreciated Ann’s recommendations and were glad that she took into account that everyone has a different budget.
One user wrote: “So kind to think of you all and their circumstances.”
