Instead of Jean de Carrouge and Count Pierre d’Alençon locked lips, Scott had Damon kneel instead of Affleck’s overlord character. The two were not friends, and their business relationship completely soured because of the rape case. To demonstrate his position, the Count applies an extra dose of power to the scene in the form of an annoyance. Affleck did this intentionally.
“Actually, the scene where I kneel in front of him, Ben just improvised it where I started saying my line and he interrupted me and went ‘closer’. And I got to get up and kneel in front of him again. It is,” Damon said.
